Family Ski Week in Courmayeur: Book Now Before It Sells Out

Kids Camp skiing

June. Sunshine. And already, I promise you, the best ski weeks for Christmas and February half term are filling up.

I know. Nobody wants to think about snow when they're trying to remember where they left the suncream. But hear me out, because if a family ski week in Courmayeur is on your radar, now really is the moment. Every year without fail, the enquiries start rolling in from October onwards, and every year without fail, some brilliant families miss out because the dates they wanted were gone.

So consider this your friendly nudge from someone who has spent a rather embarrassing number of weeks in the Alps and genuinely cannot think of a better way to spend Christmas or February half term with kids.

Why Courmayeur? Let me count the ways...

Courmayeur is, in my totally unbiased opinion, one of the most wonderful ski resorts in the world for families. It sits on the Italian side of Mont Blanc… so you get the drama of the mountain with the warmth of Italian hospitality and, crucially, the food. The pasta alone is worth the trip.

The skiing itself covers all levels brilliantly. There are gentle, wide runs that are perfect for little ones finding their ski legs, and enough steeper terrain to keep the adults properly occupied whilst (in theory) keeping an eye on the kids from a chairlift. The resort village is compact and walkable, which makes family logistics so much easier, no shuttle buses, no faff.

Christmas in the Alps: genuinely magical

I'll be honest, I'd choose a ski Christmas over almost anything else. The combination of snow, the Via Roma draped in lights, a fondue, a glass of something warm and Italian, and tired, rosy-cheeked children who've absolutely earned an early bedtime... it's hard to beat.

For families, skiing at Christmas time means the slopes are often quieter than February (the school holidays don't all align across Europe), the snow conditions are frequently superb, and you get that genuinely special atmosphere. Our Pre-Christmas ski weeks book up faster than anything else we do. I'm not saying that to create pressure (well, maybe a little), it's just the reality.

February half term: the classic family ski week

February half term is the bread and butter of the family ski week world, and for good reason. The snow is reliably good, the kids are at the right age to make real progress, and there's something about that week away from screens and school that does everyone a world of good.

We love running our guided family ski weeks during half term, proper coaching for the kids during the mornings, afternoons to explore together, and evenings for the adults to actually sit down and have a conversation uninterrupted. It's one of our favourite things to organise, and the feedback from families year after year is wonderful. You can find all the details on our ski holidays page.

What about the kids who've never skied before?

Brilliant news: Courmayeur's ski school is stellar with beginners, and we work closely with instructors we trust completely. There is nothing, nothing, quite like the moment a child who was terrified of the chairlift on Monday is skiing confidently by Thursday. The transformation is genuinely one of the most rewarding things to witness.

We also make sure afternoons are brilliant too. Sledging on the runs above the village, amazing Italian lunches and fun games. Nobody sits in the apartment being bored.

So… why book in June?

Because the families who book now get first choice of dates, accommodation, and group sizes. The families who wait until September get the leftovers, and sometimes a very apologetic email from me saying I'm sorry, we're full.

It also means you can spread the cost over more months, which is always a sensible thing. And frankly, having a fabulous ski week locked in on the calendar is brilliant for morale. Something to look forward to makes everything slightly more bearable, especially those grey November days.

If you've been thinking about a family ski week and wondering whether Courmayeur is the right place, or whether Christmas or half term works better, or whether your kids are the right age (they almost certainly are), I'd love to chat it through. No pressure, no scripts, just a proper conversation about what would work best for your family.

Ready to start planning? Take a look at our family ski holidays page for everything we offer, or get in touch directly and we'll find the perfect week for you. Christmas and February half term dates for 2026/27 are already going… the sooner you're in touch, the better.
